REASONABLY

TRUE STORIES

DON HUGHES

Through printmaking and art books, Hughes fabricates narratives of our dystopian society by setting interpolated ideas, characters and actions in a common environment, united within an overarching theme of our species’ irrational thinking and behaviors. The stories he tells are symbolic and humorous, and mix themes of politics, religion, sex, and morality. Their pop-influenced visuals include core elements of stereotypical SoCal and Baja culture, illustrated and refracted through Hughes’ point of view as an image-maker.
