REASONABLY

TRUE STORIES

DON HUGHES

Through printmaking and art books, Hughes fabricates narratives of our dystopian society by setting interpolated ideas, characters and actions in a common environment, united within an overarching theme of our speciesโ€™ irrational thinking and behaviors. The stories he tells are symbolic and humorous, and mix themes of politics, religion, sex, and morality. Their pop-influenced visuals include core elements of stereotypical SoCal and Baja culture, illustrated and refracted through Hughesโ€™ point of view as an image-maker.
